Hello, Module 3

Today marks the official start of module 3. Really hard to believe I'm on the last module already. Friday we had our welcome back skype, in which we got a tour of myunihub. SO helpful. I WISH I'd had that last year when I came on board... it look me literally months to sort through some of the stuff that Adesola was showing us. Practically speaking, I still find myunihub very confusing for nontraditional international students, but with only one more semester to go I'm not all that motivated to do more than I need to do with it to finish.

Today might be the first week, but it's coming after several weeks worth of prep for me. A week and a half ago I had a major snafu threaten to hijack the ballet part of the research process. My ballet class was cancelled due to lack of enrollment (a common problem in the rural area where I live). Luckily my network of fellow teachers have kindly found offered a few of their own classes to allow me to complete my research... Now I have to hammer out the details and timing, but it looks promising.

I know the writing process will be long, but in some ways I can't wait to "finish" research and get into writing and presenting. I've always found the writing process much easier than the research process, especially since performing my own research with the corresponding ethics and consent paperwork is totally new for me, and thus more stressful.

How are others, especially module 3s, feeling about the coming work?

  1. Hey, I am definitely on the same page as you. I was working the whole summer (on a seasonal job) and now I have to go back into the classroom and start the research. I feel nervous with the time pressure. Plus I think that I have to revaluate and maybe reduce the ideas I want to explore in my inquiry. However, I feel excited that this module signifies the end of this MA.

    1. I hear you on the time pressure. The 12-week semesters are nice on one hand, but do definitely squish the research on the other hand. Can't believe we're almost done!

  2. Hi, great to read your blog. I'm curious to now what your inquiry is about, did you choose a topic around resting? Wishing you a great start into your research! Looking forward to reading more about it.

    1. No, actually! My topic is teaching musicality to ballet and modern dancers. There's very little literature on it and I'm hoping to contribute some, so it's an exciting process. I'll definitely be blogging about it. :) Can't wait to hear how the module goes for you too!

  3. Hi Hannah
Great to read your blog. Yes the screen sharing was great. I too spend a while navigating the system last year! Can't believe onto mod 3 already it has flow by! Excited to get going and I too am most looking forward to writing up. However a little nervous to the professional artefact! Good luck

    1. Ack! Sorry I didn't see this comment earlier. I too am a bit nervous about the artefact, if only for the reason that our timeline is just so tight, since we're not supposed to think about it too much until after the research is done. Oh well, we'll figure it out!!

  4. Hi Hannah, so glad to read that we are in the same state-especially about last years start up, I too spent countless hours trying to work out unihub. I have been on a break for last week since the induction, so am now chasing my tail again. Today I wrote my feedback for module two , read the handbook for module 3 again and firmed up my timetable of when to do interviews. So I feel like I am finally on my way. keep communicating best of luck

    1. Sorry I've only just seen this! I too don't even want to think about how many hours I spent wrestling with myunihub. How is the research coming along now a week later? I've been getting my interviews set up too, and it's quite exciting!
